African Tech Startup Funding Rises 51% to $195M in 2017

Africa’s tech revolution is picking up speed with 2017 proving to be the best year on record for the continent’s tech startups.

Investment into startups in Africa exceeded $195 million in 2017.

According to African tech startups website Disrupt Africa, the number of startups in Africa to raise funding hit 159 in 2017, up from 146 companies the prior year. In 2015, the number of startups in Africa to raise funding was 125.

The increasing numbers of African startups securing funding demonstrate that investor confidence in and willingness to back African tech ventures is clearly growing.

African startups raised a record high total amount of $195,060,845 in 2017, a 51% rise from the previous year.
